Lexia Cross-Trainer: Visual-Spatial

Lexia Cross-Trainer: Visual-Spatial Lexia Cross-Trainer: Visual-Spatial works on different kinds of "muscles": visualization, visual memory, mental rotation, visual tracking, spatial orientation, and multi-perspective coordination, among other skills.

A student struggling with math or science might improve his performance by receiving extra coaching, but he could also develop the visual-spatial skills that make it easier to learn math and science.

Lexia Cross-Trainer is designed with a built-in assessment tool that places students at the appropriate skill level within five different visual-spatial activities. As with a good teacher, the software is designed to branch upward when the student succeeds and provide more help when the student gets frustrated.

Lexia Cross-Trainer Activities

Lexia Cross-Trainer Waterworld activity Waterworld
Waterworld is designed to improve figure-ground perception, the understanding of negative space, visual matching, visual memory, and mental rotations. Students create a pattern on the right side of their screen that matches the pattern on the left.

Lexia Cross-Trainer Tangrams activity Tangrams
Tangrams is designed to help students focus on part-to-whole relations and spatial relations. This matching exercise gradually increases in complexity, allowing students to complete puzzles from memory.

Lexia Cross-Trainer Spatial Delivery activity Spatial Delivery
Spatial Delivery is a three-dimensional navigation activity that focuses on spatial directionality and spatial memory. Students use a map to find their way through a maze to deliver a package.

Lexia Cross-Trainer Flips activity Flips
Flips is designed to improve students' ability to visualize objects as they appear. Students duplicate shapes after they have been rotated 90 or 180 degrees.

Lexia Cross-Trainer Cubes activity Cubes

Lexia Cross-Trainer: Logical Reasoning™

Lexia Cross-Trainer: Logical Reasoning is for students ages 7 to adult.

This software program works on different abilities fundamental to comprehension and problem-solving. It provides the foundation for creating new ideas, comprehending theories, and recognizing relationships. Logical reasoning is crucial to basic organizational skills, discerning patterns, and drawing inferences, all of which are necessary in conceptual learning. Skills reinforced in the program include classification, exclusion, inductive reasoning, deductive reasoning, conjunction and patterning.

Automatic branching keeps the student in a challenged state, minimizing boredom and frustration. A built-in assessment tool ensures that students work at the point of maximum benefit and interest. Lexia Cross-Trainer provides a fun and efficient way for students to develop the cognitive foundation that is necessary for success and is a cost-effective alternative to one-on-one tutoring.

Lexia Cross-Trainer: Logical Reasoning works on 13 skills, including:
  • Classification
  • Deductive reasoning
  • Inductive reasoning
  • Exclusion
  • Conjunction
  • Patterning

A student struggling with reading, math, or science might improve his performance by receiving extra coaching, but he could also develop the logical reasoning skills that make it easier to learn those subjects.

As with a good teacher, the software is designed to branch upward when the student succeeds, and provide more help before the student gets frustrated.

Logical Reasoning Activities

Lexia Cross-Trainer Satellite activity Satellite
Satellite is designed to improve deductive, inductive, and inferential reasoning
skills. It employs abstract thinking skills, flexibility of thought, and it emphasizes the concepts of reversibility, implication, negation and double negation, conjunction,
and exclusive conjunction.

Stepping Stones Lexia Cross-Trainer Stepping Stones activity
Students place activity pieces (stones) across a river to create a pathway. The
stones must be placed in a sequence that fits a pre-determined pattern. Students analyze the initial pieces to discover the pattern and determine what pieces they
need to complete it. This activity challenges students to develop skills such as deductive reasoning, analysis, patterning, and inference.

World Cup Lexia Cross-Trainer World Cup activity
World Cup challenges students to improve their thinking in two important ways. The first is through the understanding of the concept of class. The second is by
challenging students to think systematically and efficiently by carefully planning their way through the challenges. If students resort to guessing and other inefficient strategies, they will learn that it is more difficult to progress in the activity, but when
they carefully think through their choices, they progress more quickly to the higher levels. World Cup is a Venn diagram activity in which students must logically
determine that pieces belong inside the circles on the playing field.

Fishing Derby Lexia Cross-Trainer Fishing Derby activity
Fishing Derby is designed to develop classification skills, as well as improve speed. Students look at fish of different colors, shapes, depths, and numbers of stripes, and catch 3 fish that are grouped according to certain criteria. A valid group of fish is comprised of three fish which are the same within each attribute class, or different within each attribute class. For example, the shape and color could be all the same while the depth and number of stripes could be different. What cannot happen within any attribute class is to have two fish which are the same and one different (e.g. two blue and one red).

Bridge Builder Lexia Cross-Trainer Bridge Builder activity
In Bridge Builder, students select activity pieces that complete a series of pieces in
a puzzle to repair a bridge. The activity challenges students to understand the relationship between two objects and their degrees of similarities or differences. It
is designed to improve pattern recognition and to employ deductive reasoning skills.
The activity emphasizes comparing and contrasting, analysis, and understanding relationships.
